zoom lens model of attention

In the second stage, attention is concentrated to a specific area … After the cueing period, an array of four objects was presented for 30 msec. Here, we simultaneously investigated different control processes in a mathematical eye movement model. The vast majority of current research on human multitasking is based on performance of doing two tasks simultaneously, usually involving driving while performing another task such as texting, eating, and speaking to passengers in the vehicle or talking on a cell phone. When comparing these three predictions, one could postulate that predictions from the shuffled-SWIFT model must be as good or better than predictions from the normal-SWIFT model, and than predictions from experimental data on normal text reading. As a minimal criterion for model validity, predictions based on the SWIFT model for the respective task (a) should be as good or better than predictions based on experimental data from the other task (b) or model predictions for the other task.First, we used experimental data in normal text reading to predict data observed during shuffled text reading. These effects were reproduced by simulations of the shuffled-SWIFT model: Simulated fixation durations showed reversed effects of word frequency and length for single and first fixation durations, but no effect for second fixation duration. For measures of fixation probabilities, the model qualitatively reproduced experimental results. A training set is used for the estimation of model parameters. This research reveals that the human attentional system has limits to what it can process: driving performance is worse while engaged in other tasks; drivers make more mistakes, brake harder and later, get into more accidents, veer into other lanes, and are less aware of their surroundings when engaged in the previously discussed tasks.Studies show that if there are many stimuli present (especially if they are task-related), it is much easier to ignore the non-task-related stimuli, but if there are few stimuli the mind will perceive the irrelevant stimuli as well as the relevant. Some people can process multiple stimuli with practice. The zoom-lens of attention can be described in terms of an inverse trade-off between the size of focus and the efficiency of processing. Next rows: Activity after cue onset in the attention task, when either only the middle left location (small, second row), both left locations (medium, third row), or all locations (large, fourth row) were cued. Additionally, models highly successfully predicted eye movements in the test sets from the split half-validation procedure.Next, we investigated the consequences of the zoom lens model for eye movements during reading. The area however ca be increased or … It says that attention is directed to a particular region of visual field. Third, the design of our experiment, in which the condition “small” always corresponded to the same middle left location, could be criticized as evoking a tendency to attend to this location preferably in all conditions.
