Personally, I do not completely agree with them, unless it is big enough (or aggressive, like Pufferfish) to eat it. Crayfish will sneak around and grab at goldfish and rip off bits and pieces. A cold-water pleco might work. They will be better off on Cichlid pellets than Goldfish food.
Or if not would any other invertebrates be alright in the pond? I'm not too familiar with these fish, but I think they are actually part of the loach family.
The scuds would defintiely be a meal--even with good hiding places.
I'd adore some water bugs in there, but after doing some research it seems most are predatory and I wouldn't them attacking the fish or starving to death.
Crayfish, crawchie, crawdad or yabby they are all the same thing. I live in Canada so it gets quite cold in the winter.I'll second that analysis.
Crayfish can react (attack) defensively even when there is a bigger opponent in front of them.

So, even fish that are bigger than them run a pretty significant risk of sustaining damage from an attack. The goldfish will eat anything they can, and the crayfish feeds mainly on decaying matter. Especially ones that eat algae, there's a major algae problem in there. We are getting live plants to put in the pond to out compete by the way.
They are mainly carnivors.
I had another 3" crayfish never touch a single 1" guppy.

I've definitely seen a small one snare and eat a neon tetra, and a 4 inch long crayfish is pretty substantial. on a side note, I would do a 50% water change and gravel clean the tank every week, rather than 20%.
