Standing at 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) tall with a wingspan of 7 ft 9 in (2.36 m) long, he plays the center position. In his rookie season, the Frenchman only played 10 minutes per game through 45 games. Gobert made his NBA debut on opening night in 2013, Oct. 30, scoring two points and adding seven rebounds as Utah fell to Oklahoma City by three. Gobert also finished the year with a true shooting percentage of 65.7, the third-best mark in the league.

On another positive note, Gobert showed flashes of what he could do defensively in his inaugural NBA season. On Jan. 9, the French center blocked a career-high seven shots, plus added seven boards, three steals and three assists at OKC. In addition to his offensive production, Gobert ripped down an impressive 12.8 boards last season, as well as leading the NBA with 2.6 blocks per game. The 7-foot-1 center finished with 187 blocks, which was the second most in the league.
That year, Gobert also led the NBA in screen assists, with 482, effective field goal percentage, with 66.9 percent, and true shooting percentage, at 68.2 percent. While it seems unlikely that Gobert significantly improves his rebounding and shot blocking next season, he clearly still has more upside as a scorer, as evidenced by his post-All-Star break hot streak, as well as the 2016-17 campaign overall. Gobert was sidelined for much of December with a left knee injury he suffered in practice. As a result, he finished with averages of 2.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks. Gobert's season-high for points came a few days before his rebounding clinic, on March 2, when the seven-foot-one center poured in 26 points to help the Jazz defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves, 116-108.
He's carrying momentum over from the previous year as an elite rebounder and shot blocker and consequentially should garner attention within the first three rounds of most standard-sized drafts this preseason since he's on tap for significant minutes as a starter while playing alongside Derrick Favors. Gobert's best game of the season came in a March 3 victory over Memphis, during which he scored 15 points and grabbed an astounding career-high 24 rebounds.That set off a torrid month of play which saw Gobert grab 22, 19 and 20 rebounds in consecutive games -- all victories for Utah. He was forced to return to France due to a commitment to the French National Team, but his son has since fulfilled the family's NBA quest.
