The actors all did good work, in particular Rick Roberts as Jim Jones himself (having made the mistake of listening to the actual final Jonestown recording, I was impressed with how faithfully he recreated that particular sequence). As this documentary doesn't show even half of the stuff that went on in the People's Temple long before they even got to Jonestown. Jim Jones was head of the cult, "The People's Temple" that had its start in California. As his popularity grew he preached less about the Bible and more about social activism. His early speeches were mixture of socialist ideals and Christian redemption. This was a tragedy that not many people know the full story of; I was glad to see a competent piece like this that serves to educate and move the audience. Anyone growing up in the 1970s will remember the horrific scenes at Jonestown, Guiana. It is not up to me to research every uncorroborated statement in an internet site. I recently read the book Raven, which is a biography of Jim Jones, including the Jonestown massacre. This is NOT a documentary. He eventually convinces his flock to leave friends, family, jobs, homes, and all finances to move to Guiana. The man who lost his kid and the other one who saw his daugther the day she died, these were heartbreaking testimonies.Why dont people tell jokes about Jim Jones? I know it's wrong, but I just can't stop thinking about Jack's line- live together, or die alone.I would have liked to have seen a number total of the survivors of this day. Highlights include interviews with Stephan Jones (Jones' biological son) and fairly decent dramatic reenactments. But the better account of everything is to read one of the books written by the survivors. Could you imagine the repercussions had they been allowed to live? It also barely mentions Congressman Ryan's "assistant", Jackie Speier, who was with him throughout his visit to Jonestown and who, having been shot and having survived, has been serving in Ryan's congressional seat since the terrible events.
