Curiously, there are no par 5s and just two short holes at Elie. The Roaring River Golf Course offers a much simpler version of Belize golf, and though the course is small, it is a treat to play all the same.
Yet such is the quality of the design that at no stage do you notice this during the round.The game has been played across this gently rippling linksland since the 15th century. That video sums up so well just how much fun you have playing links golf. Elie is about as traditional a golf course as you will find anywhere in Scotland.

The challenging Par 71 course, designed by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo, incorporates numerous natural features and boasts stunning views of the Mediterranean. I hope all is well!Love the course, managed several rounds over three years in St Andrews.I agree with you on the course picking up pace after the first two holes. Just aim to the middle of this green and accept your par.The best way to play this final hole is a 3-wood to the 100 yard marker and then a wedge to the pin.
Actually, ‘quirky’ doesn’t cover the periscope in the starter’s hut that is the only way of knowing if it is safe to strike your opening drive over the crest of the hill in front of you.The course proper begins in earnest after you cross the road to the 4th tee and immediately become acquainted with a succession of apparently simple but subtle par 4s, often involving greens set at an angle, or raised slightly or defended by awkwardly placed bunkers – or a combination of the three.There is often a better angle to approach from at Elie.
The 10th played over the brow of the hill to a hidden green with a bell to warn when the groups ahead had cleared away was agreed to be the favourite of all – a par-4 of little under 300 yards from the men’s medal tee (where we all played from!). I drove my final tee shot into the bunkers 50-60 yards in front of the green and was left with a difficult sand shot.
