Lorna’s achievements in aviation are astounding. It cannot continue to grow and evolve in the decade to come while being run by a small, entirely voluntary team of organisers’ said George. Banjo & Bovril is an annual Trad and Folk Music Festival that takes place at The Harbour Bar, Bray. We had our first preliminary meeting of the committee at the weekend and the call out for author applications just opened and will remain open until the 31 st March 2020. We’d love to receive as many applications as possible.

The Banjo & Bovril Festival is a revival of an old tradition Paul O’Toole Senior pioneered years ago; when short winter days were ended in the bar with a bit of banjo playing, some steaming cups of hot Bovril and a plateful of cheese and crackers.

Lorna grew up in this small farming community, attended the local one-room school, went to church, saw the trains coming in and out of town, all in the midst of the Great Depression.
It's a big disappointment to announce that the #BrayAirDisplay 2020, which was originally due to take place on July 25th and 26th, is cancelled. Wings Food Fest / Bray Seafront / Wicklow - July 17, 18 & 19 2020. As we cannot have Carnival this year, St Mary's is holding a Scarecrow Festival during what would have been the Carnival weekend, 3-5 JULY; the theme HEROES is the same as planned for Carnival. And at the age of fourteen, in a break from all convention and expectation, she began what would become a defining lifelong relationship: she learned to fly a Piper J-3 Cub.By the age of 16 Lorna not only had her private pilot’s license, she had joined the Ottawa Parachute Club and became the youngest woman in Canada to jump out of an airplane. Lorna won the Amelia Earhart Award from the Ninety-Nines, an international women pilots organization. Lorna’s illustrious career took her literally all over the world: from supply runs to the mines in Northern Ontario, to working as a flight instructor in New Zealand, to being Canada’s first female civil aviation inspector.
During this difficult time, we have certainly seen lots of heroes in our local community and beyond, but you can choose any hero you wish. ‘We look forward to working in collaboration with our partners in the coming months to re-imagine Bray Jazz Festival and are optimistic that we will be back with a revitalized festival in 2021.’ The organisers acknowledged that a year of broken service poses a risk to the future of the festival.
