A book you can pick up, open anywhere, and read much longer than you intended. How I hate to read about all the places I will never be able to actually experience. thinking back to my 12 year old self: I'd pour through this volume with reckless abandon, stop eating, get out the flashlight! But, alas, I have a stack of books I need to read, and a class in which I am participating, so I wasn't able to finish this amazing book. The font is annoyingly small....I feel like I read a previous version in a bookstore once and the newer version is much more condensed to make it friendly for amazon shipping, and as a visual person, I miss the version with extra pictures. It seems more like an encyclopedia than an atlas, listing and describing various locations with enough photos included to tantalize the curious traveler. I didn't read the whole book. But look a little harder and you can find a whole lot of other remarkable, wonderful and weird thing to amuse and entertain. Since then, he has spent hours pouring over the stories and factoids and enjoys picking it up for a quick read with his coffee or when the movie I’m watching isn’t exactly his cup of tea. It has tiny snippets of text, no real in depth information, and no directions. Atlas Obscura, who provides such colorful, tasty graphics in social media, has provided a sad printed book. If you enter, you must take off your shoes......the author suggest the traveler take along a pair of very heavy socks! It's hundreds of dense pages, full of photos and some of I LOVE the Atlas Obscura website, and thoroughly enjoy the daily emails I get from the site, which includes several places around the globe that are truly out-of-the-way, and obscure.
Was this really only published two years ago? Terrible layout, terrible pictures, most in black and white, and the book is printed with full graphics.
As is, it offers very little to the first edition. Sections are brief but still inGod no.
